Marina Montes Bastos

A lawyer with a solid academic and professional background, Marina graduated in Law from PUC/SP (2009) and furthered her studies with a Master’s in Law and Development from FGV/SP (2015) and a PhD in Environmental Law from the University of São Paulo – USP (2022), together with study and research periods at the renowned Tilburg University (the Netherlands) and the University of Freiburg (Germany).
Her professional career includes work at leading law firms and in the legal department of a multinational company, where she built her experience in environmental litigation and advisory work, handling highly complex cases.
Her expertise covers a wide range of topics, including civil and administrative liability, biodiversity, contaminated sites, environmental licensing, solid waste and climate change. In recognition of her performance and career, Marina was shortlisted as Rising Star Associate of the Year by Legal 500 Brazil in 2025, a sign of her standing in the market.
In academia, Marina shares her knowledge as a guest lecturer in Environmental and Climate Law in the MBA in ESG at Fundacao Getulio Vargas (FGV Cidades). She is also an active author, having written the book “Agrotóxicos: incertezas científicas, princípio da precaução e fatores extrajurídicos na tomada de decisão governamental” (Pesticides: scientific uncertainty, the precautionary principle and non-legal factors in government decision-making), contributing to the specialized legal literature.
